Abstract:To enhance the sensing length and system resolution of Brillouin optic al time domain reflectometry (BOTDR),we use the bidirectional erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in the sensing fiber.I n the experiment,the performance of EDFA with backward pump is better than that with forward pump on the gain and noise figure.The sensing lengths of BOTDRs with and without EDFA is about 50km and 80km respectively,an d the same time,the sensing length of BOTDR with EDFA in the sensing fiber would be greater than 80km.The temperature resolutions of BOTDRs with backward and forward pump EDFAs are about 0.50℃ and 1.0℃,and the performance of BOTDR with backward pump EDFA is higher than that with forward pump.Within the range of pump power,the resolution of BOTDR can b e improved by increasing pump power.The results show that the BOTDR with backw ard pumped EDFA in the sensing fiber has great prospect.
